A leading goal scorer in the 2019/2020 Nigeria Professional Football League season, Mustapha Ibrahim of Plateau United has sent a come get me message to the Technical Adviser of the Super Eagles, Gernot Rohr as he said he is eagerly for the Franco-German's call.
Ibrahim who has contributed 11 goals to Plateau United's total of 36 goals in 25 matches before the season was suspended indefinitely due to the coronavirus is confident that if given a chance, he would give the foreign based strikers a good run for their money.
Recently, the former Gabonese national team coach had his contract with the Nigeria Football Federation renewed and there are calls in different quarters for him to give more opportunities to home based players.
As if buoyed by such clarion calls, Ibrahim told Daily Trust yesterday that his phone is switched on waiting to receive a call from the Super Eagles Technical Adviser.
The former El-kanemi Warriors and Enyimba FC striker known for his aerial prowess said having played for the Home-based Eagles at the 2018 Africa Nations Championship in Morocco, he is eminently qualified to go a step higher.
"The Nigeria Professional Football League is blessed with talented players and I count myself among such gifted players.
"It is also encouraging that those who matter in the game are pleading with the Super Eagles coach to give home-based players a chance. We are motivated by this show of confidence.
"I am, therefore, waiting on Rohr for invitation to the Super Eagles. As a leading goal scorer in the NPFL, I believe my invitation will be on merit. I have been consistent in goal scoring for my clubs.
"I was also a member of the CHAN Eagles squad that won silver at the 2018 championship in Morocco where I gained useful experience as a striker.
"If I am given a chance, I will compete favourably with the players in Europe. I know they have the edge but I will work hard to justify my invitation," he said.
He, however, said the final decision lies with the coach who decides those who should be invited to Super Eagles.
Ibrahim maintained that Rohr shouldn't be compelled to use home-based players as he said invitation to the national team should be based on merit.
